The fourth century is one of the most important centuries in the history of Christianity, in which Christianity was declared a permitted religion, important ecumenical councils were held, and in which monasteries and monastic settlements of all kinds came to be. Several factors have influenced the establishment and construction of the Coptic monastery. The most important being its monastic ideology, lifestyle, the choice and preparation of the right place, accessibility to the needs of daily life as well as accessibility to the settlement location. There is no doubt that the nature of the region has cast its shadows on the geographical distribution of the monasteries, as well as the nature of their urbanism and architecture as reflected by their buildings, ruins, and some of the sayings of the desert Fathers.
